In response to the urgent needs of communities hit by Typhoon Tino in the Fifth District of Negros Occidental, CHMSUyanihan: Operasyon Bangon Quinto Distrito delivered clean drinking water, relief packs, clothing, and hot meals to residents of La Castellana on November 11.
The initiative, led by Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU), is scheduled to return on Sunday, November 16, extending its relief efforts again to La Castellana and the neighboring towns of Isabela and Moises Padilla, which were also severely affected by the recent typhoon.






DEPARTURE. The CHMSUyanihan volunteers started Nov. 11 loading up service vehicles with the relief packs, drinking water, clothing, and ingredients bound for La Castellana.

During the initial deployment on Tuesday, CHMSUyanihan distributed 195 relief packs—each containing two kilograms of rice, instant noodles, and ready-to-eat canned goods—alongside 1,190.99 liters of drinking water, 35 sacks of clothing, beddings, and children’s plush toys.
In partnership with Art Relief Mobile Kitchen and the Office of SB Member Christine Thel Geollegue, volunteers also prepared and served “ginisang monggo with chicken,” good for 1,500 servings. The meals were distributed to families in evacuation shelters and nearby households.





























ARRIVAL. The team’s visit in La Castellana was held in close coordination with the Office of SB Member Christine Thel Geollegue. They also paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Añejo Nicor and Vice Mayor Alme Rhummyla Mangilimutan.

The aid reached two evacuation centers and a nearby community in Barangay Robles, the largest barangay in La Castellana.
At the Bahay Silangan Fastrac shelter, 168 households—approximately 300 individuals—received food packs, water, clothing, and hot meals. Meanwhile, 71 households, or 279 individuals, at the Velez Malaga Elementary School shelter received water and clothing.







































DISTRIBUTION. The volunteers distribute relief packs, drinking, water , and clothing Velez Malaga Elementary School, Bahay Silangan Fastrac, and a nearby community. The group also assisted the municipal government in distributing the LGU-funded goods in one of the shelters.

A total of 43 CHMSUyanihan volunteers, including students, faculty, staff, guidance counselors, alumni, and community partners, took part in the operation.
Launched on November 6, CHMSUyanihan has established drop-off booths for in-kind donations at SM City Bacolod, Savemore Fortune Towne, and the guardhouses of CHMSU’s Alijis, Binalbagan, Fortune Towne, and Talisay campuses.

BEYOND. Communities surrounding the bahay Silangan Fastrac shelter receive aid right at their doorstep as the volunteers directly brought the relief packs and clean drinking water.
