A team composed of second-year BS Hospitality students won second place in the Tanyag Talisay Business Pitching Competition organized by the City Government of Talisay for schools in the locality held this December.
Kenth Cyrel Desamparado, Ahron Lachica, and Ellen Banay received Php 7,000 after pitching their business idea Transforming Waste Into Sustainable Innovation which highlighted sustainability practices in the university that can also be a source of livelihood.
“The main objective of the output is to showcase how CHMSU integrates sustainability into its core practices,” said Desamparado.
At CHMU Talisay (Main) Campus, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) transforms waste into eco-friendly products through various initiatives by students, faculty, and staff.
“Creating this business pitch taught us that sustainability is achievable through innovation, creativity, and teamwork,” added Desamparado.
In their pitch, the team featured paper charcoal made of paper waste, nutrient-rich vermicompost, eco-envelopes, and enviro-blocks made of residual plastic waste and water bottles.
“This experience fueled me to be more conscious of my actions and to advocate for sustainability in the community I belong,” he said.
