CHMSU’s Academic Unit holds mid-year planning workshop

The colleges and units under the Vice President for Academic Affairs convened at Mambukal Resort from July 29 to 31, 2025, to strategize, coordinate efforts, and renew commitment for the upcoming Academic Year 2025 – 2026 of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University.

Led by VPAA Jay Estrellas, the first day of the planning workshop focused on mapping the strategic goals of each college and unit.

Joining the three-day workshop were Assistant VPAA Ma. Riza Manalo, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Arjay Alvarado, College of Business Management and Accountancy Dean Marissa Quezon, College of Education Dean Ophelia Duayan, College of Engineering Dean Engr. Grace Gerona, College of Criminal Justice OIC Dean Mitchelle Lopez, College of Fisheries Dean Imee Perante, College of Industrial Technology Dean Angelie Lopez, and Program Chairperson Jennifer Juaneza, who represented the College of Computer Studies.

Also joining the event were Alumni Relations Director Melanie Proquez, Director for Advanced Education Programs Jesusa Pineda, Director for Curriculum and Instructional Material Development Francis Jose Bearneza, Director for Guidance Services Juben Palermo, Director for Internationalization and External Relations Rhoderick Samonte, Library and Information Services Director Jiji Berina, NSTP Director Esther Leah Macatimpag, Scholarships Director Ma. Antonia Sitiota, Director for Student Affairs and Services Maria Victoria Violanda, and University Registrar Arlene Pasquin.

President Norberto Mangulabnan joined the second day of the workshops. Day 2 underscored the importance of integration, monitoring, and coordinating inter-unit programs and calendars.

The participants learned to target internationalization and sustainability goals in the session led by Director Samonte.

They also received updates on the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), The ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Network, Times Higher Education (THE), World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), QS World University Rankings, and Accreditation from Director for Quality Management Yrika Marie Dusaran.

Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Director Maria Agnes Arcenas also gave a breakdown of the PREXC indicators and targets of the Academic unit, along with updates on the performance reviews.

The participants also listened to the updates on digitalization, specifically on the admission portal, online submission of gradesheet, and class scheduling system by ICT-MIS support staff John Kevin Moraca.

Meanwhile, Director for Research and Development Ricky Acanto and Director Roger Ray Manzano shared the agenda of their respective offices with the Academic Unit.

Director Violanda, VPAA Estrellas, and AVPAA Manalo wrapped the afternoon discussion with updates on the student manual, faculty manual, and other operational manuals on the proposed service credits for faculty members.

On the last day of the workshop, the Academic Unit joined together to plot the academic calendar for the first and second semesters of AY 2025-2026 and the summer term.

To conclude the three-day planning workshop, the participants reinforced their commitment with a signing of the “Pledge of Alignment and Service Excellence.”
