Three engineering students from the College of Engineering (COE) in Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) Alijis Campus earned 7th place among the top 10 teams in the country at the SOLIDWORKS Model Mania 2026: Academe Season 5 Finals.
The CHMSU team was made up of Khent Benedict Balulot and Angel Laporca, fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering students, along with John Adrian Malunes, third-year Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering student. Engr. Rene Salmingo served as their coach.
The nationwide competition in the Philippines was organized by Computrends Systems Technology, Inc. and took place in Makati City on October 2, 2026.

The team finished with a score of 99.869% in 1 hour and 20 minutes. The competition front runners were the teams from De La Salle University-Manila and PATTS College of Aeronautics, both of which achieved perfect scores.
Model Mania® is an international speed-modeling contest. Using SOLIDWORKS or xDesign, contestants build a 3D part from a supplied drawing, and the first to submit a part with the correct mass wins.
The finals put participants’ skill, accuracy, creativity, and speed to the test, challenging them to apply their computer-aided design knowledge under the pressure of competition.
