CHMSU holds advanced education baccalaureate, commencement exercises

Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) held the Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises of the Advanced Education Programs with the theme “Shaping the Future through Globalized Education for Sustainable Development” at Padre Pio Hall, Nature’s Village Resort on July 8, 2023. A total of 63 graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Management and Accountancy, College of Education, and College of Industrial Technology were conferred their respective doctorate and master’s degrees.

The event kicked-off with the Baccalaureate Mass and Blessing and Hooding Ceremony, where the graduates’ thesis advisers donned their academic hoods. This was followed by the message of Commencement Speaker, Lizan F. Perante-Calina, DPA, Dean of the Graduate School of Public and Development Management, Development Academy of the Philippines.

In her message, Perante-Calina emphasized the importance of leadership after earning any degree. She said that leadership is not about positions or accolades, but a journey of transformation.

Perante-Calina also highlighted the concept of “futures thinking,” which is critically thinking about and materializing possible and desirable futures.

“Ours is not to boast to previous generations about our modern ways. Rather, it is to help these out and commit to ways of life most desirable, towards prosperity and sustainability,” she said.

The ceremony continued with the conferment of degrees by Norberto P. Mangulabnan, PhD, SUC President III, and the awarding of Academic Honors presented by Arlene G. Pasquin, MAEd, Registrar III.

After the awarding the graduates were called on stage by their respective college deans to receive their diplomas.

Dannylyn G. Magallanes, Doctor in Public Administration, who received the Highest Distinction honor with the highest General Weighted Average, gave her Graduate’s Message on behalf of the class, while Gladys G. Villasis, Doctor in Public Administration, also with Highest Distinction, led the graduates in the Pledge of Loyalty.

Jose Rabbi B. Malaga, PhD, Vice President of the Alumni Federation, formally inducted the graduates to the Alumni Association.

The ceremony ended with the singing of the CHMSU hymn led by Joecy Grace D. Mijares, Master of Arts in Teaching General Science.
