Capitol recognizes two execs for contributions to women empowerment, gender equality in NegOcc

Two executives of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University were recognized for their contributions to women empowerment and gender equality in Negros Occidental.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson bestowed Vice President for Administration and Finance Rosalinda Tuvilla and Director for Gender and Development Elvie Samson the Abanse Negrense Women Empowerment and Gender Equality (WEGE) Award in a ceremony held at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City on Jan. 31, 2025.

The CHMSU executives were among the 18 women awarded by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and the Provincial GAD Focal Point System for advancing women’s rights and equality in the province.

Tuvilla was recognized for her contributions as the former chairperson of GABRIELA-Negros and VPAF of CHMSU.

Meanwhile, Samson’s role in promoting GAD in the university as its director was also lauded.

Samson’s award was received by Tuvilla on her behalf.

Lacson, who is the chairperson of the Provincial GAD Focal Point System, was accompanied by 5th District Board member Rita Gatuslao, and action officer Marie June Castro in congratulating and giving out the awards.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros, chair of the Senate Committee on Women, also congratulated the awardees through a video message.

The awards also recognized six non-profit groups and organizations including the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, Inc. which is one of the partners of CHMSU.
