CHMSU early childhood education students earn regional honors for groundbreaking early literacy research

Students from Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) College of Education made a significant impact at the 2025 Regional Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Convention and Data Festival, held September 17-18 at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City.

Seven fourth-year Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) students successfully presented their pre-selected action research titled “Interactive Manipulative Toy for Enhancing Phonemic Awareness in Grade 3 Learners of School Year 2024-2025” before regional education leaders and researchers from across the Negros Island Region and Siquijor.

The research team, led by Adelle Mae P. Arisgado, included members Kycee Acojedo, Jenny Albeza, Ivan Sheen Dela Cruz, Angel Ann Marie Delicana, Liame Placido, and Andrea YbaƱez. Their innovative approach to improving early literacy skills through interactive learning tools earned them a coveted presentation slot at the prestigious regional gathering.

Adding to the university’s success, team member Ivan Sheen A. Dela Cruz captured second place in the convention’s on-the-spot VizWiz Competition, demonstrating exceptional data visualization skills under pressure.

The student team was accompanied by their research adviser, Rolando Jr. Z. Peralta, and program chairperson Rosemary C. Trecho, who were both present to support the students throughout the convention.

The CBMS Convention and Data Festival serves as a premier platform for showcasing educational research and data-driven solutions across the region. CHMSU’s participation underscores the university’s commitment to producing education professionals equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills.
