A team from the DOST Balik Scientist Program visited Carlos Hilado Memorial State University held at the Conference Room of the Talisay campus on November 18, 2025, to conduct an institutional assessment of the university’s research initiatives. The visit is part of CHMSU’s efforts to strengthen its emerging research capability in marine-derived natural products.


The Balik Scientist team, led by Dr. Andrea Roxanne Anas, Dr. Hilario Taberna Jr. and Dr. Francis Legario, assessed the university’s research infrastructure, identified capability-building needs and explored potential collaborations in natural products and marine research.


The team was welcomed by University President Norberto Mangulabnan, who expressed full support for the assessment, citing its importance in advancing CHMSU’s applied research agenda in line with regional and national priorities. Also present were Ma. Riza Manalo, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Intellectual Property, and Director for Research and Development Services, and Ricky Acanto, director of research and development services, among others.
