FCUSG holds simultaneous ‘Binhi’ mangrove planting in Binalbagan, Talisay

The Federation of CHMSU University Student Government (FCUSG), together with its partners and various student-led clubs and organizations, planted not just mangroves—but hope for a greener future where humanity and nature thrive in harmony.

On April 26, 2025, in celebration of Earth Month, the FCUSG officially launched Project Binhi, with the theme “Binhi sang Paglaum, Kadalag-an sang Kabuhi” (Seed of Hope, Triumph of Life), in two locations in Talisay City and the Municipality of Binalbagan.

The project aimed to plant 5,000 mangrove propagules as a tangible step toward environmental restoration and climate resilience.

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of the Office for Student Affairs and Services, Negros Occidental Provincial Environmental Management Office of Negros Occidental and Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, Inc., which provided a significant number of seedlings, and with the assistance from the General Services Office and Provincial Engineering Office.

The Binhi activity in Talisay City was held at Catabla Baybay in Brgy. Zone 3, while in Binalbagan, they planted the propagules behind the Capture Laboratory of the Fisheries Building in Brgy. Enclaro.

Binhi was also in collaboration with the Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy. Zone 3, Talisay City, and the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment, with the active participation of JCI Bacolod, the University Student Governments of the four CHMSU campuses, and the community of Brgy. 6A who germinated the propagules planted.

The team also thanks the fisherfolk community who joined during the project.
