SocSci Dept hosts ‘Dialogo’ research writing, training workshop

To improve the research skills of CHMSU faculty members, the Social Science Department organized the DIALOGO: Philippine Studies Studies Goes Global research writing and training workshop on February 20-21, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Room of the Talisay (Main) Campus.

The workshop, organized by the SocSci Department led by Chairperson Robert Pardillo, also aimed to strengthen the contributions of CHMSU faculty members to global discussions on Philippine Studies.

Professor Henelito Sevilla Jr., of the Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, was the invited resource speaker at the event.

Two faculty members also showcased their research before the resource speaker and workshop participants.

On the first day, CHMSU Director for Internationalization and External Relations Rhoderick Samonte presented his research entitled “Farm Personal Protective Equipment Use among SIFI-assisted Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations: Assessment of Awareness, Policy, and Practice”.

Meanwhile, faculty member John Gerald Pilar presented “Phonological Idiosyncrasy of Kawayan Dialect of Southern Negros, Philippines: Quasi-Lexicostatistical Database of Lexical Categories” on the second day

Faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education, as well as university officials and officers, participated in the workshop.

During the training, the participants worked in groups to come up with and present study proposals to Prof. Sevilla.

Among the proposals pitched during the workshop was “Pagtutok sa Pagtutulungan para sa Kapayapaan sa Komunidad: Isang Pagsusuri sa mga Makabagong Estratehiya” by Ana Magdalena Cherniquin, Soledad Estares, Analie Fernando,  Maam Lovelyn Granfiel, Noel Mamac, Rey Mendoza, and Rosemarie Venegas,

A study proposal on “Cultural and Social Semantics of Sagaynon Dialect” was presented by Deputy Director for Research Ethics Review Ivy Aboy, Jarebeth Bangoy, Marijo Chua, Advanced Education Programs Director Jesusa Pineda, chairperson Pardillo.

The last group pitched a study on the “Extent of Engagement in Pornhub: The Case of Filipinos” by Ma. Graziella Sigaga, Pilar, Jansen Tumabing, and Yvonne Velasco.

The College of Education participants are set to also submit their study proposal.
