Some 39 students from the colleges in the CHMSU Talisay campus learned basic first aid in the training by the University Student Government Talisay, Department of Sports Affairs at the Global Learning Cafe on March 15.
Meljohn Morillo, Radiant Rescue Volunteer and alumna of CHMSU-Disaster Emergency Assistance and Rescue Services (DEARS), provided a lecture on basic first-aid and emergency action principles for various medical emergencies.
Moreover, Allan Pablo, founder and one of the advisers of CHMSU-DEARS, explained the dos and don’ts in performing basic first aid.
Following the lecture, the CHMSU-DEARS volunteers demonstrated the various bandaging techniques needed for different injuries.
Through hands-on demonstrations, students and student-athletes learned how to apply bandages and dress wounds properly.
“I am happy to join the first aid training because it teaches me to stay calm and focused in emergencies,” said Nicole Jereza Enolia, a student participant.
“I realized the importance of training as not all situations requiring first aid involve minor injuries; some may be life-threatening,” said April Joy Peligrino, a student-athlete participant. (by Zhybeille Nessia)
