True to its core value of environmentalism, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University planted about a thousand species of native tree seedlings through the Bionihan Tree-Growing and Monitoring Activity at Gawahon Eco Park in Victorias City on April 26, 2025.
This edition of Bionihan brought together 64 faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners from the Talisay (Main), Alijis, and Fortune Towne campuses.

The volunteers planted native tree species such as narra, kupang, and bakan at Site 3 of CHMSU’s adopted forest lands inside the eco-park—small steps toward a greener and more sustainable future. The team also monitored previously planted trees at Sites 1 and 2.
Organized by the Center for Internationalization and External Relations and the Greening CHMSU Task Force, the activity was made possible through the support and collaboration of the Office for Students Affairs and Services, Victorias City LGU, and Victorias City Environment and Natural Resources Office,
The Provincial Environmental Management Office, Northern Negros Natural Park, and DENR-PENRO Negros Occidental provided the native tree seedlings for Bionihan.
“Bionihan provides opportunities to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners to show their love and commitment to planet Earth,” said CIER Director Rhoderick Samonte, Greening CHMSU Overall Chair.
Samonte added that committing to and showing care for nature must go beyond the borders of the university.
He added that more Greening CHMSU activities await students who are interested in taking part and volunteering.
With each tree planted, we continue to nurture our shared responsibility to care for the environment and future generations, he said.
