Culture and the Arts Affairs collaborated with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office for a medical mission for Breast Cancer survivors on November 29, 2022 at the Global Learning Café, Green Building, Talisay (Main) Campus.
In her welcome remarks, GAD Director Elvie S. Samson,PhD said that the medical mission was a great opportunity for everyone since medicine and check-ups nowadays can be expensive. Samson also thanked the medical doctors, led by Dr. Carmencita Sarrosa, Chair of the Bacolod Kadughan Foundation, who volunteered their time and expertise for the activity. She also expressed here gratitude to Culture and the Arts Coordinator Rowena Tuscano and her staff and the GAD Coordinators for making the medical mission possible.
Guest speaker Dr. Andrea Joanne Torre gave a talk on Breast Cancer Awareness and stressed the importance of early detection. She encouraged the audience to do a “Self Breast Exam” to identify any signs of cancer in the body.
After the talk, members of the audience asked questions in an open forum and Breast Cancer survivors shared their journey on their diagnosis and recovery.
The activity closed with free check-ups conducted by the medical team composed of Dr. Sahara Pestijo, Dr. Abiuben Balondo, Dr. Mikhail Oscar Remollata, and Dr. Dennis Renan Valencia. Makeshift assessment rooms were provided at the venue.
