Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) continued its momentum toward institutional transformation with the second installment of the Strategic Workshop to Accelerate CHMSU’s Internationalization and Sustainability Journey: From Indicators to Impact (2026–2030).
Held at the Function Hall of the CHMSU Talisay (Main) Campus on May 19, 2026, this second session brought together unit heads, deans, program chairpersons, and extension, research, and internship coordinators from the College of Computer Studies (CCS), College of Education (COED), College of Engineering (COE), and College of Industrial Technology (CIT).

Building on the foundation laid during the first installment held last April 30, 2026, this second batch of participating deans, program chairs, unit heads, and coordinators–along with GAD and CIER coordinators–continued charting a unified, data-driven course toward becoming a Global GREEN CHMSU.
This vision is anchored on the convergence of internationalization and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing that no college stands apart in the university’s collective ambition.
Organized by the Center for Internationalization and External Relations (CIER), the workshop marks a defining shift in the university’s institutional development — from fragmented, unit-based efforts to a coordinated, institution-wide strategy that positions CHMSU competitively on the global stage while deepening its commitment to sustainable development.
In his message delivered by COED Dean Ophelia Duayan, VP for Academic Affairs Engr. Russel Dela Torre welcomed participants to the activity, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to an internationalization agenda that is both globally competitive and socially responsible.
CIER Director Rhoderick Samonte again led the substantive sessions, opening with a presentation of the “Results of the Pre-Workshop Survey on CHMSU’s Internationalization and Sustainability Journey (2012/2017–2025),” offering a comprehensive baseline analysis of the university’s decade-long progress, highlighting key milestones, persistent gaps, and areas requiring urgent acceleration.
Director Samonte’s second presentation, “Global GREEN CHMSU: The Nexus of Internationalization and the Sustainable Development Goals,” laid out the strategic framework connecting CHMSU’s internationalization agenda with the SDGs. He underscored that sustainability and global engagement are not separate tracks, but mutually reinforcing pathways that must be pursued in concert — a message that resonated especially with the technology- and education-focused colleges represented in this second batch.
Dean Duayan, CCS Dean Joe Marie Dormido, COE Dean Engr. Grace Gerona, and CIT Dean Angelie Lopez each expressed their personal and the colleges’ commitment to fully support the university’s internationalization and sustainability efforts moving forward.
“Recognizing that global engagements and environmental stewardship are essential to academic excellence, societal relevance, and the formation of responsible engineering professionals, I hereby pledge that the College of Engineering will take the proposed actions presented earlier in support of CHMSU’s internationalization & sustainability journey,” said Engr. Gerona in her message of commitment.
“By endorsing these actions, I commit the College of Engineering to championing CHMSU’s vision of becoming a globally engaged and sustainability-driven institution. I will work closely with the University leadership, faculty, CIER, students, partners, and the wider community to implement these initiatives with integrity, transparency, and a spirit of collaboration,” she added.
With both batches of colleges now engaged, CHMSU moves closer to a fully unified institutional strategy — one in which every academic unit contributes to the university’s journey from indicators to impact, and from ambition to achievement on the world stage.
