Students from the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) and Bachelor in Industrial Technology (BIT) programs at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University Talisay and Alijis campuses, together with Stephen Peñafiel, Greening CHMSU support staff, and Janet Estimar and Nancy Relox from Ecowaste Management team, participated in the unveiling of the Sagup Negros Digital Toolkit at Negros Residences on September 29, 2025.
The event, titled “Unwrapped: Launching of Sagup Negros Digital Toolkit,” coincided with the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste.
Organized by Sagup Negros Inc., the launch introduced practical strategies to cut food waste and build resilient food systems in local communities. The event featured demonstrations and exhibits on food waste cooking and preparation, Bokashi composting, and youth-led fisheries innovations under the Tuloy Heroes initiative.

The highlight of the afternoon session was the Tuloy Heroes showcase, where young innovators from Negros Occidental presented their work with coastal communities to reduce post-harvest fishery losses. They capped the session with a live cooking demonstration of “Bang!ganisa,” a sustainable twist on traditional longganisa made from bangus.
Other sessions included a Bokashi composting workshop led by Carl Ryan Villa, and a grazing table presentation by Chef Eden Cadusale of Slow Food Community in Bago, who emphasized value-added food products using fruit peels, seeds, and other byproducts.
The launch drew students, youth leaders, civil society representatives, fisherfolk, and farmers from across the province. It was supported by the Negros Occidental Provincial Government, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Provincial Youth Development Council, along with partner organizations including Slow Food Negros Network, Slow Food Youth Bago FRESH, NYLI Inc., KAISAHAN, and 3Zero Club Negros Occidental.
The event concluded with the awarding of two subgrants through the Sagup Food Circles Project of the Negrosanon Young Leaders Institute (NYLI) Inc. and KAISAHAN. The grants will support Sagup Negros’ carinderia, community pantry, and food security projects across Negros Occidental.
