Official Statement on the Untimely Demise of Jeralyn Latoza

The Carlos Hilado Memorial State University community is profoundly saddened by the untimely passing of Jeralyn Latoza, a valued student of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Science program, on September 2, 2025.

On the day of the incident, CCTV footage shows Jeralyn walking with fellow students toward their classroom on the fourth floor of the Library and Sciences Academic Building (LSAB). Upon reaching the floor, she appeared to walk slower than the group, lagging slightly behind, before suddenly collapsing in the corridor.

The incident was immediately reported to the School Clinic. Emergency responders from the City of Talisay were promptly contacted and quickly arrived on campus to provide assistance. Accompanied by the Clinic Nurse, Jeralyn was transported to Riverside Hospital in Bacolod City, receiving CPR and urgent care en route.

Following this tragic event, the University administration, led by the President and including the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director for Student Affairs and Services, Clinic Nurse, Legal Officer, Supervising Administrative Officer, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Chairperson of the BA Social Sciences program, Head Security Guard, and Director for Information and Communications Technology, met with Jeralyn’s guardian and siblings to review the circumstances and offer support. The family has confirmed that the incident involved no assault, force, or external cause.

The University is actively coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough review and adherence to all necessary protocols. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of our students and to maintaining a secure, nurturing learning environment.

Appropriate assistance and support have been extended by the University Administration to Jeralyn’s family to help them through this difficult time. We share in their grief and sorrow.

Jeralyn’s kindness and spirit will be deeply missed, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her classmates, teachers, mentors, friends, and the entire CHMSU community.
