Philippine flags across all CHMSU campuses are flown at half-mast as the nation and the world grieve the passing of Pope Francis.
In accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 871, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a period of national mourning from April 24 until the late pope’s burial.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, died on April 21, 2025 at the age of 88.
He served as the 266th Pope of the roman Catholic Church from March 13, 2013, becoming the first Jesuit, first Latin American, and first non-European pontiff in over 1,200 years.
In his Apostolic Visit to the Philippines in January 2015, Pope Francis offered comfort and solidarity to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
