PRIME_CHMSU 2026 showcases research, extension, innovation

Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) formally launched its 5th PRIME_CHMSU Fiesta on May 11, 2026 at the Talisay (Main) Campus, opening with a ceremony and ribbon-cutting at the Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) Hub.

The week-long celebration was organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Intellectual Property (VPREIP) and held in conjunction with CHMSU’s 4th University Foundation Week. PRIME means “Pursuits in Research, Innovations, and Meaningful Extension.”

University President Norberto Mangulabnan expressed his gratitude to the CHMSU community for their continued trust in his leadership, particularly in light of his recent reappointment. VPREIP Ma. Riza Manalo likewise welcomed guests and community members, emphasizing the event as a platform to showcase research outputs, collaborative innovations, and creative endeavors by CHMSU faculty, students, and partners.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Engr. Russel Dela Torre and the Vice President for Administration and Finance extended their congratulations to the Office of VPREIP for spearheading the institution-wide initiative. Joining VPREIP Manalo at the helm of the festivities were Director for Research and Development Ivy Aboy, Director for Extension and Community Services, and Director for Intellectual Property Management Armando Reosura.

Highlights of the celebration

The opening day featured a Flare Bartending Skills Exhibition at the RIE Hub, courtesy of the Research and Development Services, College of Business Management and Accountancy, and the BS Hospitality Management program. The exhibition spotlighted the bartending and mixology talents of CHMSU students and alumni.

The Intellectual Property Management Office hosted a Reverse Pitching event on the afternoon of May 11 at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR), drawing entrepreneurs and members of the Bacolod Business Community. The activity highlighted innovations in product development, service delivery, and business process management. The event was further marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between CHMSU and the Bacolod Business Community, formalizing partnerships aimed at advancing technology transfer and collaborative innovation.

A significant milestone during the festivities was the launching of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Sanitary Toilet, a sustainability-driven project whose walls are constructed from enviro-blocks — eco-friendly building materials produced from recovered waste. The initiative reflects CHMSU’s commitment to applied research and environmental stewardship.

On May 12, the Extension and Community Services organized an in-house review of extension programs and proposals from various colleges at the Conference Room of the Talisay (Main) Campus. On the same day, the Research and Development Services convened the Research Exposition and Poster Competition at the RIE Hub, where student-researchers from across colleges presented their papers.

Throughout the week, the RIE Hub served as a venue for production demonstrations organized by the Extension and Community Services. The demos featured innovations and collaborative outputs from the College of Industrial Technology, College of Fisheries, and College of Criminal Justice.

The 5th PRIME_CHMSU Fiesta underscores the university’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and community engagement as cornerstones of its academic mission. Updates and highlights are available on CHMSU’s official Facebook page.
