Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) convened academic, research, and extension leaders on April 30, 2026, for the Strategic Workshop to Accelerate CHMSU’s Internationalization and Sustainability Journey: From Indicators to Impact (2026–2030).
Held at the Function Hall of the CHMSU Talisay (Main) Campus, the first installment of the workshop brought together units heads, deans, program chairpersons–along with the extension, research, and internship coordinators– from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business Management and Accountancy (CBMA), College of Criminal Justice (CCJ), and College of Fisheries (COF).

The first batch of participating officers and faculty members charted a unified, data-driven course toward becoming a Global GREEN CHMSU — a vision anchored on the convergence of internationalization and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The workshop, organized by the Center for Internationalization and External Relations (CIER), marks a defining moment in the university’s institutional development.
It signals a shift from fragmented, unit-based efforts to a coordinated, institution-wide strategy that positions CHMSU competitively on the global stage while deepening its commitment to sustainable development.
VPAA Engr. Russel Dela Torre welcomed the participants to the activity.

CIER Director Rhoderick Samonte kicked-off the workshop with a presentation on the “Results of the Pre-Workshop Survey on CHMSU’s Internationalization and Sustainability Journey (2012/2017–2025),” which provided a comprehensive baseline analysis of the university’s progress over more than a decade and highlighted key milestones, persistent gaps, and areas requiring urgent acceleration.
His second presentation, “Global GREEN CHMSU: The Nexus of Internationalization and the Sustainable Development Goals,” laid out the strategic framework connecting CHMSU’s internationalization agenda with the SDGs.
Director Samonte underscored that sustainability and global engagement are not separate tracks, but mutually reinforcing pathways that must be pursued together.

The presentations were followed by the flagship activity: the Global GREEN CHMSU Accelerator workshop, where participants from each college worked in groups to identify concrete Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and design strategic interventions for the 2026–2030 period.

The outputs were subsequently presented in a plenary, followed by an open discussion that produced a set of institutional resolutions and commitments.
The workshop concluded with messages of commitment delivered by the deans of the four participating colleges.
CAS Dean Arjay Alvarado, CBMA Dean Nenette Padilla, CCJ Dean Purisima Romero, and COF Dean Imee Perante each pledged to carry the workshop’s outputs forward, translating institutional commitments into college-level action.

The strategic workshop underscores CHMSU’s resolve to be a globally engaged, sustainability-driven institution that makes a meaningful impact on its region, nation, and the world. With the 2030 horizon in view, the university is poised to transform its vision into measurable, lasting progress.
