A faculty member from Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) joined a select group of Southeast Asian scholars for a two-day regional workshop on academic freedom held at Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus in Thailand from October 31 to November 1, 2025.
Sensei Adorador, of CHMSU’s College of Education, was among 15 delegates chosen through a competitive selection process to participate in the workshop, organized by the Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF) in partnership with Mahidol University’s Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies.

The program brought together early-career academics, researchers, students, and civil society leaders from across the region to exchange insights, confront emerging challenges, and strengthen cross-border networks in defense of academic freedom.
Organizers emphasized the importance of regional solidarity in safeguarding intellectual autonomy and upholding democratic values.

Adorador, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology with a specialization in Social Psychology at the University of the Philippines Diliman, has contributed to national and international discourse through his writings in Rappler, The Philippine Daily Inquirer, and The Daily Guardian, as well as in peer-reviewed academic journals.
His longstanding advocacy for academic freedom and active engagement in scholarly forums were cited as key factors in his selection for the fully funded program.
His participation, CHMSU officials noted, reflects the university’s growing role in regional conversations on educational integrity and democratic resilience.
