CCJ supports free legal aid for farmers at Land Justice Initiative mobile help desk in Binalbagan

BS Criminology students from the College of Criminal Justice (CCJ) provided frontline support during the Land Justice Initiative Mobile Help Desk, a free legal assistance activity for farmers held on October 30, 2026 at the Binalbagan Municipal Convention Hall.

The activity was organized through the Land Justice Initiative, implemented by KAISAHAN (Kaisahan Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Kanayunan at Repormang Pansakahan, Inc.) and the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC).

The whole day free legal consultation was open to farmers across southern Negros, including potential and actual Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) with questions, problems, or cases related to agrarian reform.

The participation of CCJ reflects CHMSU’s commitment as the first Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE) in Negros Island Region. The CHRE promotes the protection of human rights through service and community engagement. In May, CHMSU signed an agreement with the Commission on Human Rights to establish CHMSU CHRE.

The BS Criminology students, together with Program Chair Feljane Ga, helped facilitate the activity, guided participants through the help desk process, and provided logistical support to ensure smooth implementation throughout the day.

The activity gave students hands-on experience in public service while helping farmers access legal assistance on their rights and agrarian concerns.
