Carlos Hilado Memorial State University Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Program held its 14th Recognition and Thanksgiving Celebration for its newly licensed civil engineers at Sugarland Hotel, Bacolod City on February 3, 2023.
Sixty-three CHMSU graduates passed the Civil Engineering Licensure Examinations (CELE) held last May and November 2022. In the November 2022 CELE, CHMSU graduate Jefferson Y. Cafino ranked 10th among the 8,029 passers and the university’s passing rate of 86.21% placed it as the fourth top performing school in the country.
Since its opening, the university’s BSCE Program has produced 412 licensed civil engineers, which is 95.15% of its graduates who have taken the licensure exams. To date, there have been five CELE topnotchers from the university.
During the Thanksgiving Service, guest speaker Ptr. Michael P. Sequitin commended the hard work and dedication of the new civil engineers and emphasized the importance of faith in their success.
The Recognition Ceremony followed with welcome remarks from BSCE Program Chairperson Engr. Michael D. Forton, and a message from President Norberto P. Mangulabnan, PhD.
President Mangulabnan congratulated the passers and challenged them to take this milestone an opportunity to serve the community. “More than becoming a good engineer, you have to become a good person to others. Allow your gratitude to God to be manifested in your relations,” he said.
The program continued with the presentation of certificates of recognition to the passers and testimonies from Engr. Kenneth F. Periolo and Engr. Jasper Ian O. Lumawag.
A special plaque of recognition was presented to topnotcher Engr. Jefferson Y. Cafino, who was represented by his mother and aunt during the ceremony. Through a video, Cafino thanked his family, friends, and professors for their support and shared few tips to future examinees, in which he highlighted the significance of diligence in preparing for the examinations.
College of Engineering Dean Engr. Grace C. Gerona addressed the new civil engineers with a reminder to embrace the values inculcated in them when they engage in their professional practice. Likewise, Vice President for Academic Affairs Jay B. Estrellas, EdD cited in his message that he hopes that the passers will demonstrate faith and generosity in their workplace and own communities.
Towards the end of the celebration, a ceremonial challenge to the graduating class was given by Engr. Joemil Eduard M. Magno on behalf of the passers.
